Another successful cornea conference

Christopher Liu said "The morning sessions were devoted to the cornea. The target audience focussed on were ophthalmic trainees, staff grade and associate specialists, non-corneal consultants, and consultants with a special interest in the cornea."

Corneal emergencies represent a third of cases presenting urgently either through A&E or directly to eye clinics. Having attended the session delegates will have an updated knowledge of these important conditions, enabling them to recognise and manage these conditions & complications properly, and in a timely fashion.  Ophthalmic A&E departments are often very busy and short staffed.  With patients often highly emotionally charged, excellence in care is especially important to avoid creating unhappy patients, complaints and litigation.

The "Hot Topics" session dealt with hot topics in cornea, where development is rapid and new treatments have become the norm.  Delegates having attended the session will be updated and conversant in the latest in corneal surgery, contact lenses, eye banking and keratoprostheses. With no prior knowledge assumed, acronyms and new terminology were fully explained.

The Cornea & Cataract Day held at the The Thinktank Museum in Birmingham this May was a great success. It saw many delegate’s come together in force with informative and educational seminars.
