Sessions, Symposia and Sun: a report of EVER, 2014

Professor Christopher Liu organises two successful sessions at this year’s EVER conference

Tongdean Eye Clinic’s consultant ophthalmic surgeon and director, Professor Christopher Liu, continued his influential presence at this year’s European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) meeting, held in the beautiful city of Nice, France. Liu demonstrated his years of ophthalmic experience through two well attended and well received sessions on keratoprotheses and artificial corneae on October 4. Many who are affiliated with the Tongdean Eye Clinic are familiar with Professor Liu’s passion for OOKP (osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis) surgery, an interest that has brought him international acclaim in his career.

Both symposia created a good opportunity for Liu to discuss keratoprostheses, research and new developments in KPro technology, alongside sharing clinical experiences in managing very difficult cases of corneal blindness amongst prominent peers. Both sessions were cited as a collaboration between the Tongdean Eye Clinic and Brighton’s Sussex Eye Hospital.

Professor Christopher Liu is a veteran at the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER), and has been attending its conferences and organising special interest symposia at the annual event for more than 12 years. Liu utilizes his love of working with people with his organisational experience to deliver noted examinations year-on-year.

The European Association for Vision and Eye Research – formerly known as the Joint European Meetings in Ophthalmology and Vision (JERMOV) - is the leading ophthalmological association in Europe. Since EVER formed in 1997, the non-profit association has grown to include more than 850 members from 48 countries around the world. Its regular meetings analyse a range of disciplines across the industry, from immunology and optics, to genetics and epidemiology. This year’s much-anticipated meeting, from October 1 to 4, 2014, was the most attended meeting since formation of EVER.

A host of professors in Ophthalmology and research scientists contributed a mix of clinical and basic science based knowledge to this year’s seminal meeting. Talks throughout the day were presented by professionals from Harvard University, USA, India, Singapore, Sweden, Germany, Spain, the UK, Ukraine and Canada. Keynote lecturers included Philippe Kestelyn, David Sullivan and Bahram Bodaghi.
